Prepping Your Home For Winter

September 26, 2019

As the weather cools down and winter is quickly approaching, now is a good time to make sure your home is ready for the months to come. Check off these important home improvement projects this fall:

Replace Windows

If you started to feel a draft near windows last winter, it may be time to replace some of the windows in your house. Swapping out windows can not only solve that pesky problem of a chilly draft, but be more energy-efficient and decrease your heating bills during the cold months.

Roof Repair

This summer we got a lot of rain and wetness, which may have discovered some leaks in your roof. The cold of winter can aggravate a small roof leak. Any leaks in a home's roof should be fixed before the snowy season. The best way is to hire an experienced, professional crew that can accurately find the leak and fix the problem quickly and safely.

Power Washing

Power washing is a great way to give your exterior paint, deck, porch, and outdoor buildings looking fresh and new. However, it also prevents the growth of mold and mildew that feed on grim. It is a good idea to power wash not only before winter, but before every season.

Inspect Furnace and Fireplaces

Many people rely on the warmth of their furnace or fireplace during the cold winter months, thus it is very important to get them inspected, fixed, and cleaned before you start running them regularly for winter. Routine maintenance from a trained professional can keep your furnace and fireplace working properly and prevent catastrophic damage to your home.

Clean and Repair Gutters

You probably have noticed  a build-up of leaves that have started to gather in your gutters this fall. It is important to clean these out, so that rain and melted snow can easily flow and drain away from your home. If water can not flow smoothly, you are at risk of water getting into you home, or sitting and creating water damage.

Repair Driveways and Walks

Small cracks and holes in your driveway or pathways may not seem like a big issue, however once the temperatures lower and water freezes, they can become a much larger problem. It is best to fix them before you have a larger problem on hand.
